About

The International animated film workshop is the result of two initiatives. First, during Animafest 2009, two authors – Alexey Alexeev (Russia) and Darko Bakliza (Croatia) – went to Rab with the idea of an animated film colony in mind, and started negotiations with local authorities, as well as the owner of Paradiso Suites. Bakliza has been familiar with the location and work conditions due to the traditional art colonies that take place regularly within the Paradiso Suites on the Rab island.

Simultaneously, another author, Drasko Ivezic, started communication with the world-renowned Estonian author Priit Pärn, and suggested organizing a scenario writing workshop mentored by Mr Pärn, which would be beneficial to Croatian authors.

Both projects were presented to Kresimir Zimonic, Zagreb Film’s artistic director, for further consideration, and it seemed only logical to merge the two initiatives into the International animated film workshop on the Rab island, organized by Zagreb Film.

This year’s debut project is realized thanks to the great support by the Zagreb City Office for Education, Culture and Sports, the City of Rab Open Learning Center, Paradiso Suites, as well as the whole team at the Zagreb Film institution with its director Vinko Bresan at its forefront.

Workshop Goals

The idea behind the Workshop is that students will benefit professionally from working with leading animation authors. Both the creative writing and animation parts of the workshop will contribute to the quality of their future projects. The final product of the Workshop will be a two-minute animated film.

Workshop Program

During the seven days of the workshop students will be learning about creative and logical story development from Priit Pärn. Parallel sessions in sand animation will be led by Olga Pärn. Other animation techniques will be supervised by Alexey Alexeev.
